- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
- In a bowl, combine flour, baking soda, and salt. Mix and set aside.
- In another bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add the egg, water, and vanilla to the mixture. Beat until smooth.
- Slowly mix in the dry ingredients until just combined.
- Fold in chocolate chips evenly.
- Scoop dough into ¼-cup balls, place 3 inches apart on trays.
- Bake for 8 minutes, then remove and bang the tray against the counter to create ripples.
- Return to oven, bang again every 2 minutes, for a total of 12–14 minutes.
- Let cookies cool on tray for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack.
